What is Human Trafficking?

Put simply, Human Trafficking is the buying and selling of human beings for a profit, simimlar to any other commodity.

According to the Trafficking in Persons Report issued each year by the U.S. State Department, Human Trafficking is defined as follows:

  • Sex Trafficking in which a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such an act is a child (under 18 years old).
  • The recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of subjection to slavery or to exploit a person for profit.
